How to print staff paper

A couple of settings in the print dialog make the difference between neat staff paper and crooked margins.

1. Print at actual size

Open the PDF and choose Print. Set scaling to Actual size or 100% instead of Fit to page. Otherwise the printer shrinks the page slightly and the margins end up uneven.

2. Match the paper size

Download the Letter version if your printer uses US Letter paper and the A4 version if it uses A4. Printing an A4 file on Letter paper can cut off the top or bottom of the page.

3. Printing on both sides

Choose two-sided and flip on the long edge if your printer supports it. Otherwise print all pages, put the stack back in upside down and print again. Note that on the back of the page the wide margin ends up on the right, so if you want to hole-punch the paper, print on the front only or use the generator's mirrored margin option.

4. From a phone or iPad

Open the PDF, tap the share button and choose Print. iPhone and iPad normally print PDFs at actual size. On Android, check that the paper size matches your printer.
